How To Actually Finish The Games You Start

August 28, 2026 · Klara Novakova

I used to abandon games at the two-hour mark, right when they were getting good. Sound familiar? Most of us start far more games than we finish, and the reasons are usually about habits, not the games themselves.

The first fix was picking one main game and sticking with it. Jumping between five RPGs means never building momentum in any of them. Hollow Lantern only clicked for me once I gave it my full attention for two evenings.

The second was scheduling small sessions. Fifteen honest minutes a day beats a marathon you keep putting off. Games like Big Bass Drop are great for filling gaps, but for story games I block out real time.

And finally, I stopped feeling guilty about dropping games that genuinely aren't for me. Finishing is a goal, not a duty. Save your attention for the ones that earn it, and your backlog stops feeling like homework.
